JABONN FLURRY

JABONN’S STORY

Jabonn Flurry grew up in rural Oklahoma where martial arts schools were almost non-existent.

Upon graduating high school in the early 1990’s, he headed to college and entered an intensive martial arts training phase.

During this time, Jabonn studied Wing Chun and Uechi-Ryu Karate, where he achieved the rank of shodan, or first degree black belt, in the art.

In 1998, he stepped into Vince Tamura’s Dallas Judo Dojo and never turned back, earning the rank of nidan, or second degree black belt in Judo.

While at Tamura’s dojo, he was introduced to the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu through a training partner and student of Carlos Machado.

In 2006, Jabonn joined another Tamura student to open OKC Defensive Tactics, a Judo school, which required training, teaching and competing in Judo tournaments.

In 2013, Jabonn contacted Professor Roy Dean and asked to come train at his academy.

After an initial assessment, Jabonn was approved as a Roy Dean Academy affiliate and continues his study of the art as a purple belt.

Oklahoma Combative Academy (OCA) is a private club, limited to military personnel. OCA students learn and develop from a base of Army Combatives, and continue by integrating advanced techniques selected from BJJ and Kodokan Judo.
